Applications are taken from across the wider Loddon Mallee region but most are Bendigo based and in 2019 it is hoped this will add up to around 450 student days.

Interest from students is very high and each year there are three times as many requests as available spots to fill.

The year 10, 11 or 12 students are keen to learn more about healthcare and their time in the hospital helps them to shape their subject choices at school and to choose their future path at university.

There are also a smaller number of students in specialty areas like catering, maintenance, music therapy and administration.

Student tours are also hosted and recently four groups of primary school children visited from Eaglehawk, Lightning Reef, St Peters and Specimen Hill Primary Schools meeting caregivers from admissions, catering, nursing and allied health.

As an extra bonus a film shoot was held on the surgical ward in late May promoting the VET pathway into healthcare including interviews with four students from Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
