Our maternity fees
If you are planning to choose your own private obstetrician for your maternity care, your private health insurance will fund the majority of your costs, depending on your level of cover. Out-of-pocket costs will depend on your obstetrician - you can get an outline of these costs by contacting the obstetrician's rooms.
The information below outlines costs to access our Joy maternity package.
Joy fees
This lower cost care model varies depending on your circumstances. Compare the options below for guidance on the likely costs depending on your needs:

- Costs for Non-Medicare card holders with overseas private health insurance.
Medicare with private health insurance
- All pregnancy, birth and post-natal appointments with obstetrician and midwife.
- Hospital care during pregnancy, birth and after your baby is born.
- Ultrasounds or other tests
- Pathology tests
- Pharmacy
- Anaesthetist out of pocket fees (if required)
- Paediatrican out of pocket fees (if required)
Medicare without private health insurance
- All pregnancy, birth and post-natal appointments with obstetrician and midwife.
- Self-funded maternity package.
- Ultrasounds or other tests
- Pathology tests
- Pharmacy
Non-resident (no Medicare) with overseas private health insurance
- All pregnancy, birth and post-natal appointments with obstetrician and midwife.
- Hospital care during pregnancy, birth and after your baby is born.
- Clinician fee for anaesthetic and paediatric care.
- Ultrasounds or other tests
- Pathology tests
- Pharmacy
Non-resident (no Medicare) without private health insurance
- All pregnancy, birth and post-natal appointments with obstetrician and midwife.
- Self-funded maternity package.
- Ultrasounds or other tests

- Pharmacy
The above fees are estimates and can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy.
- Please contact your health fund to confirm your obstetrics cover and if an excess payment is required. Above pricing excludes anaesthetic and paediatrician fees.
- The delivery rebate and total out-of-pocket costs depend on the complexity of delivery (for example Caesarean versus vaginal delivery).
Additional costs
There may be additional costs associated with your pregnancy in addition to the fees listed above.
These fees may include ultrasounds, pathology, pharmacy, anaesthetic care, paediatric care, a surgical assistant, referrals to other specialists, ICU bed fee or fees if a higher level of care is required.
Please ask the service provider when booking these additional services about any fees you may incur.

The paediatrician and anaesthetist deposit
An anaesthetist will be required for pain relief in the case of a Caesarean delivery or administering an epidural. A paediatrician will be required in the case of a caesarean delivery or if the baby requires medical attention.
A deposit of $3,000 may be payable prior to admission. If the services of an anaesthetist or paediatrician are not required, this deposit will be fully refunded.

We know choosing your hospital and obstetrician is a big decision, particularly if you don't have health insurance. We hope our easy-to-read estimate assists you in your decision making process.
