Senior Podiatrist Jaclyn started working at St John of God Midland and Mt Lawley hospitals only a short time ago, but explains the motivated and helpful attitude she sees in caregivers every day has made her feel settled in her role.

What’s your position?

I’m a Senior Podiatrist with St John of God Midland and Mt Lawley hospitals.

How long have you worked with us?

I have worked at St John of God Health Care for five weeks.

What do you enjoy most about working with us?

My initial impression of the hospitals was that they are bright coloured and everyone has a smile on their face and everyone is willing to help.

If you don’t know where something is or struggling to get a task done, there is always someone there to help. Often times you get caregivers in the waiting rooms going out of their way to help patients get to where they need to get to.

What opportunities have you received while working with us?

I’ve been working as a podiatrist for about six years and I’ve never had any training in manual handling.

It was the area I felt really nervous about and as part of my orientation at St John of God Health Care, I actually got to do some manual handling. The instructor put a few different hoist options in that I can use as a podiatrist to help with my work, which was of great benefit and I was really excited to actually do it.

What do you love about living in Perth?

The beaches, the lifestyle and the people here.

What do you want other people to know about working with St John of God Health Care?

So far, what I’ve experienced is a “yes, we can” attitude. There’s always opportunities to try something new or to change what we do to better ourselves or our outcomes with patients.

Do you and your team socialise outside of work?

On Saturday there was a dinner and an escape room catch up with the multidisciplinary high-risk foot clinic team, so it’s definitely good getting to know your colleagues in a different way outside of the day-to-day clinical work.
