St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals reassures parents it’s safe to bring your children to hospital.
“We understand there is a lot of heightened concern in the community at the moment because of COVID-19, but we want to reassure all parents that the safety of your children is our top priority while they are in our care,” Dr Friesen said.

“For all our patients who need to access medical treatment during this time, we have strict infection control processes in place to ensure they are protected while in our hospital.

“Everyone is being screened when they present to our Emergency Department and anyone who is suspected of having COVID-19 is immediately isolated from other people seeking treatment. This is so we can ensure the Emergency Department remains a safe place for our community to seek the medical treatment they need.”

Perth Children’s Hospital recently expressed similar concerns over a significant decrease in presentations.

Dr Friesen said that if parents delayed bringing their children to hospital, they could miss out on potentially life-saving interventions.

“Delaying treatment can cause an illness or injury to become more serious. It can even put children’s lives at risk, especially with time-critical illnesses.

“I want to reassure parents that if their child is injured or unwell, our hospital remains a safe place to bring their child for treatment. We want all children to be able to access medical care they need as soon as they need it.”
