Low or no-cost mental wellbeing support and therapy

Our clinical, community health and support team provides low or no-cost counselling, strategies and solutions where it matters most. In local communities.

We provide free or low-cost specialised, community-based mental health treatment and support for people aged 16 and older.

During the 2021/22 financial year, St John of God Mental Wellbeing Services supported 1,924 clients, with their emotional wellbeing over 14,000 sessions.

Treatment and services available

• Individual counselling – one-on-one meetings with a clinician from our multi-disciplinary team for specialised support.  
• Group therapy – an opportunity to connect with other people who are experiencing similar feelings and challenges. 
  
• Specialised treatment for people with ongoing mental health conditions.
  
• Telehealth services available (client suitability determined by clinician).

If you are a member of the public

See your GP for a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). An appointment will then be made for you to attend the service in your area. In most cases, if you have a GP referral and MHCP, there will be no out-of-pocket cost for support, but please contact individual locations to find out if you are eligible.

If you are a health professional

GPs must complete and submit a referral for Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) referrals only. Please email your completed referral and Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to [email protected] or fax it to 1800 313 008. For more information see our locations page.
