Meet our caregivers
Meet our nurse Laura who was so impressed by the opportunities she thought she would receive at St John of God Health Care she moved to Australia with her husband with just one suitcase each.

What is your role?

My role is Area Manager Emergency Department at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.

Why did you chose to work with us?

I was living in working in Norfolk in the UK and saw a recruitment advertisement for nurses at St John of God Health Care about six years ago. After looking at the Mission and Values of the organisation, which really impressed me, I decided to apply. I was successful and began working as a Registered Nurse at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

What are the benefits to you for coming to work with us?

The benefits of coming to work for St John of God Health Care have been huge for me and my family. When I first applied I knew the organisation looked like a really nice place to work and that has been my experience from day one. As well as the benefits of working for a great organisation with really strong values, the career opportunities it has given me have been amazing. I started as a registered nurse, progressed to clinical nurse and now I’m a clinical nurse manager. The career opportunities here are endless.

How has your experience been?

My experience working for St John of God Health Care has been the very best. Everyone is so friendly and caring and my colleagues have become like family. I can’t imagine working anywhere else.
When we first arrived in Australia, it was at Christmas time and we didn’t have any family here. The person I had been dealing with in human resources was so lovely – she invited us to spend Christmas with her family. This was so sweet and we really appreciated being able to be part of a family Christmas.

How was the experience of moving internationally to join us?

Our experience of moving from the UK to Australia was perfect. It was everything and more than we expected. The whole process was managed very professionally from day one with regular and very helpful contact from the caregivers in human resources. My husband was also able to secure a job with St John of God Health Care and now works as an equipment officer at the same hospital as me.
When we sold up, bringing just one case each, we were excited and a little daunted about our new adventure but it all worked out really well. We loved the UK but knew that moving to Australia was the best thing for us and our family. That was six years ago and since then we have also had another child so now we have three children.

Why would you recommend our hospitals as great places to work?

I would definitely recommend coming to work for St John of God Health Care to anyone considering making the move from another country. It is a great organisation and the caregivers working here are so special. It is a workplace environment where everyone has a smile and is happy to help patients and other caregivers. The career advancement opportunities are another reason to join St John of God Health Care.
