Podiatry

Podiatrists are experts in foot care and may be involved in your care. Podiatrists work with people in the following situations and may be involved as part of your rehabilitation program:

Management of foot complications resulting from diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or neuropathy
Clinical diagnosis or history of foot or lower limb deformity
Clinical diagnosis of falls
Arthritis
Soft tissue and muscular pathologies

Hospital-based podiatry has a strong focus on healing foot wounds. Especially when a patient has a compromised capacity for healing due to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, vascular disease and significant foot deformities (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis).

Our podiatrists have the diagnostic skills for evidenced based neurovascular assessment of the feet and are the best discipline to assess and treat all foot wounds. Podiatrists also have specialised skills in offloading foot wounds, to help get patients back on their feet for rehabilitation and overall mobility.
