Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) information for patients and visitors

Information for visitors
The following restrictions apply for anyone visiting a patient in our hospital*.
Daily visiting hours:
- 10.00am to 1.00pm and 3.00pm to 8.00pm for general wards.
- 11.00am to 8.00pm for the maternity ward (partners may visit from 7.00am to 8.00pm) - up to two visitors at time (including children). Find out more information about arrangements for maternity patient and visitor restrictions.
- 8.00am to 8.00pm for our children's ward (Ward 2D) - up to two visitors at a time (including children).
- 10.00am to 1.00pm and 3.00pm to 8.00pm - up to two visitors at a time for the Critical Care Unit/Intensive Care Unit (no children are allowed* and visitors restrictions apply for COVID-positive patients). Food, drink and fresh flowers cannot be brought into the Critical Care Unit/Intensive Care Unit.
- Bookings are essential for visitors to attend the Mental Health Unit (telephone 9462 4000).
Visitor requirements:
- Masks are no longer required, unless visiting a COVID-positive patient.
- Do not visit if you have infectious symptoms, are COVID-positive, are a close contact, or feel unwell (even if you have a negative RAT).
- Visitor restrictions will apply for COVID-positive patients, please contact the relevant ward for further information.
- Adhere to physical distancing and hand hygiene, where possible.
Please note: you cannot enter the hospital until it has been seven days since you were diagnosed with COVID or been in close contact with someone who has COVID.
We acknowledge the inconvenience of these measures but ask that you remain patient and courteous to our staff as they strive to keep you and your loved ones safe. Abuse of our staff will not be tolerated.
*Exemptions may be granted on compassionate grounds.
Visits outside of standard visiting times
Visits outside of normal visiting hours is restricted to people deemed carers or essential visitors, with an approved exemption by the ward.
A person may be considered a carer or essential visitor if they are a birth support person, parent or designated guardian of an admitted child (including a neonate), designated guardian for a patient living with a disability, an end-of-life support person, family member or friend required to visit a patient in the case of an emergency.
In the absence of visiting in-person, we will work closely with patients and loved ones to facilitate interaction via video communications mediums (Skype, FaceTime etc.)

Emergency Department visitor restrictions
Two visitors at a time is allowed for patients in the main Emergency Department.
Chemotherapy Unit
Only one essential visitor can attend an appointment (no children are allowed). Patients and visitors should not attend if have COVID-like symptoms, COVID-positive or a close contact.
Patients booked for surgery or procedure
Patients will be advised if they are required to have a RAT prior to a planned procedure.
Please contact the hospital for further advice if you have tested positive to COVID-19 anytime in the past 12 weeks or been a close contact in the past seven days, as your surgery may need to be delayed.
You should also contact the hospital if you have:
- a fever or flu-like symptoms
- temperature greater than 37.5 degrees
- been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19
- been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting test results.

COVID Clinic closed
