St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Prof Shirley Bowen said patient feedback is taken very seriously and the beds were introduced in response to comments provided by our new mums and dads.

“The birth of a child is an incredibly special time and we want to ensure that mums and dads on the maternity ward are as comfortable as possible during the first few days of their baby’s life,” Prof Bowen said.

A number of boarder beds were brought to the hospital last year and dads were encouraged to try the beds themselves and vote for their preferred one.

“We know dads on the maternity ward will love the new boarder bed as it was selected by our patients,” added Prof Bowen.

The new boarder beds are available in rooms which do not have a double bed and can be converted into chairs during the day to accommodate extra family and visitors.
