The 48-bed facility will treat with youth and adults with mild to moderate mental health disorders.

St John of God Murdoch Hospital CEO Ben Edwards said the facility would assist patients receive the treatment they needed, closer to home.

“Currently there are no private mental health facilities south of the river in the Perth metropolitan area, and there are no private facilities for youth anywhere in the state,” he said.

“There is a clear unmet need in our community for mental health programs. This facility will encompass a contemporary model of care and include day and overnight programs.

“The two distinct service offerings will include programs for adults, and also youth and adolescence. There will also be a day area for group programs to operate.”

Planning for the facility is in the final stages, with several options available to build the greenfields site on campus.

“We are proud to offer a greater range of care on our campus that will assist patients with both their physical and mental health, providing a holistic approach to health care for individuals,” Mr Edwards said.

“There are also great co-location benefits being located on campus, near to public facilities in the Murdoch Health Precinct and public transport links.”

Dr Chinar Goel has been appointed as Murdoch’s Mental Health Lead, to guide development of the new service.  Dr Goel brings a wealth of experiencing having set up similar services in the past and specialising in youth mental health. Find out more.

The facility will focus on mild to moderate mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, trauma and drug and alcohol-related mental health disorders.

The facility is expected to open in 2022.
