Nominated in the ‘Excellence in Midwifery’ category, Emma is recognised for her commitment to making sure mums can access reliable, accurate and best practice information about pregnancy, labour, birth and caring for a newborn baby through her maternity blog.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Vanessa Unwin, nominated Emma.

“Emma is such an inspiration to everyone who works with her.  As one of our youngest Nurse Managers, she brings such enthusiasm and passion to her role.  This was exactly how the maternity blog started, with Emma identifying gaps in information for expectant parents and wanting to empower them.

“Emma met with obstetricians, her midwifery colleagues and our allied health partners to put together a series of blogs covering all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.

“This information is reviewed by a panel of experts to make sure it is up-to-date and best practice.  It is a great way to engage our mums and to make sure they are well prepared before they come for the birth of their baby,” said Vanessa.

Emma, who is also studying a Doctorate in Philosophy at Edith Cowan University, says it is great to be recognised.

“It is very humbling to be nominated by your peers.  I look forward to sharing the awards night by those who support and encourage me.

“We have a great team, which is reflected by those who have participated in and helped get the blog up and running, and who have contributed their expertise and experience.

“My goal is to get more women reading our blog, to help them feel as prepared, supported and educated as they can about their birth.”

The WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards will be announced on May 6 2017, at a special Gala Ball.  You can read our maternity blogs here
