St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital Chief Executive Officer Sally Faulkner hopes forgoing a warm bed for a night sleeping rough at the peak of Melbourne’s winter will help her raise awareness and funds to help people experiencing homelessness.
Sally has signed up for this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 22 June 2017 with the aim to individually raise $5000 towards the cause.
“The sleepout is something I can do as an individual, it is only a small part but it will assist the 12,000 plus Vinnies volunteers who help people across our state every day,” she said.
“My personal goal is to raise $5000 and contribute to the overall aim of raising $70,000 to support the Vinnies Soup Van - a stalwart community service which works steadfastly to provide social connection and essential food security to people in need.”
Sally said her personal contribution to this cause was aligned to St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital’s support for at-risk young people whereby the hospital has partnered with the Peninsula Community Ownership Foundation to provide funding for a Whitelion outreach worker.
“I have been involved in with the Whitelion project for the past five years and I know that every single night Victorians are sleeping rough and they often do not have the basic necessities that we all take for granted – a meal every night and a warm bed,” she said.
“As a hospital we conduct numerous fundraising opportunities with our caregivers and patients to provide donations of items such as toiletries to Whitelion.
“Taking part in this CEO sleepout is another way we are continuing our support for people in the local community who are doing it tough.”
