Wedding bells ring on Wexford ward

St John of God Bunbury Hospital’s Wexford ward heard the chimes of wedding bells recently when it played host to its very first wedding ceremony.

Kelli Kachur and Robby Antony were engaged in 2017 and over the next two years planned the wedding of their dreams in Eagle Bay for Saturday 30 March 2019.

With close friends and family based overseas, they sent out invitations 10 months before the big day to ensure guests would have plenty of time to arrange travel.

After trying for a baby for a number of months, Kelli and Robby were delighted to learn Kelli had fallen pregnant in July 2018.

She and Robby discussed changing the wedding date, but ultimately decided to roll with it Kelli said.

“We knew of course there was a chance the baby might arrive early; but thought, if that happens it would be so special and extraordinary for our family and friends to meet her, particularly those who came from overseas,” Kelli said.

And, at 38 weeks gestation, baby Antony-Kachur set in motion her own plans to enter the world.

Kelli went into labour on 29 March and a healthy baby girl arrived safely via c-section that afternoon.

The couple swiftly named her Shelby and then got on with arranging to shift their wedding ceremony to St John of God Bunbury Hospital.

Kelli and Robby’s friends and family banded together in record time to arrange the hospital ceremony.

“We couldn’t have had the impromptu hospital ceremony without our friend and celebrant Elizabeth King who came from Melbourne for the occasion, and without the organisational skills of our family and friends – especially, Ben & Cara (Robby’s brother and his girlfriend), Nicole and Ellie (Kelli’s bridesmaids from Canada and Switzerland), and Robert (Robby’s dad)," Kelli said.

"Our photographer Ange of Ange Wall Photography really rose to the challenge and made an extra trip to Bunbury to capture our hospital ceremony, and she still managed to capture the celebrations at Lot 80 in Eagle Bay afterwards.

"We were overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone, including the staff and management at St John of God Bunbury Hospital.”

Kelli and Robby were married in a beautifully intimate ceremony in their hospital room less than 24 hours post c-section.

Robby’s brother Ben was the best man, Nicole and Ellie (Kelli’s friends from Canada and Switzerland) were the bridesmaids, and Luca (Kelli’s nephew from Canada) was the ring bearer at the hospital ceremony.

The wedding reception went ahead at Lot 80 in Eagle Bay as planned on 30 March with Kelli attending from her hospital room via Skype.

Warm wishes of congratulations go to Kelli and Robby on the arrival of their daughter Shelby, and on their extraordinary wedding at St John of God Bunbury Hospital.
