Today, on 18 January 2018, the first patients were welcomed into the new St John of God Berwick Hospital.

Chief Executive Officer Lisa Norman said greeting these patients, who had been transferred from the old Gibb Street hospital site, marked an enormous milestone.

"St John of God Berwick Hospital over the past few years has focused on expand our health services to accommodate the growing needs and demands of our local community," she said.

"This commitment to healthcare started in 2015 with the opening of the St John of God Berwick Specialist Centre on Kangan Drive, which houses our Day Oncology and Infusion Centre.

"Since then, we’ve made a further substantial investment into health care in this area with the construction of our new hospital.

"This beautiful, cleverly designed building sits adjacent to the Specialist Centre and enables us to now offer a complete range of comprehensive health services."

The new hospital features eight operating theatres and six birthing suites.

"Importantly, we will also soon open the region’s first intensive care unit, provide rehabilitation services and offer cardiac care services, including the first catheter laboratory in the region," Lisa said.

"We are incredibly proud of this new hospital and it was a joyous occasion for all of us when we welcomed our first patients."
