Our new $120 million hospital on Kangan Drive in Berwick is now open.
Opening Day Information- Thursday 18 January 2018
Our new hospital at 75 Kangan Drive is now open.
From 8am we will begin safely transporting approximately 40 patients from Gibb Street in ambulances to the new hospital. They will travel throughout the day along Gloucester Avenue, Melville Park Drive, Fairholme Blvd, Bryn Mawr Blvd and Kangan Drive. We ask for the patience and consideration of our local residents as these ambulances are in transit between both sites.
We have communicated directly with our current inpatients and their families/carers as to the movements of the day. However, if you have any questions as to the location of a loved one during the move process please call (03) 8784 5000.
To keep patient relocation as safe and straight forward as possible, we ask that visitors consider dropping in on their loved one from Friday onwards. Minimising visitors to the hospital on Thursday 18 January allows for our caregivers to focus on ensuring that our patients are relocated to their new rooms safely. We thank you for your understanding.
If you have any questions regarding opening day and the relocation of patients, please call (03) 8784 5000
St John of God Berwick Hospital is committed to providing safe and secure car parking for our patients, visitors and caregivers.
There are 445 car parking spaces at Kangan Drive with access to the hospital and to St John of God Berwick Specialist Centre. 8 disabled car spaces are located in close proximity to the entry/lifts.
The car park provides access to both the Hospital and the St John of God Berwick Specialist Centre. Please enter via Gate 1, located at 55 Kangan Drive (Specialist Centre) to access both buildings.
Signage directs visitors to the Specialist Centre and Hospital to the car park spaces closest to their destination. There is a fee to use the car park. During the planning stages of the new hospital it was recognised that with the extreme traffic on Kangan Drive, a car parking tariff would be required to ensure that the car park would not fill with visitors to Casey Public Hospital, Chisholm Institiute, surrounding businesses, medical services and Berwick Railway Station. We ask for your understanding as we implement this measure to prioritise the safety and access of our patients, visitors and workforce.

About the new hospital
The new hospital has been delivered in partnership with Generation Healthcare REIT (GHC) and is solely operated by St John of God Health Care. Opened on Thursday 18 January 2018, it provides:
- six operating theatres, a cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory

Our $20.4 million St John of God Berwick Specialist Centre located adjacent to the hospital, which includes a day oncology clinic, opened in February 2015.
Future planning will see this expanded to 316 beds and 12 operating theatres, while the Gibb Street site will be renamed St John of God Langmore Centre and redeveloped to provide new services including rehabilitation, with a dedicated outpatient rehabilitation centre. It is excpected that this centre will open in mid 2019.
Our new maternity unit
A new maternity unit is one of the key features of our new hospital offering private rooms and fresh and light-filled facilities for mums. The new 22-bed ward features private rooms, built-in sofa beds for parents, access to baby bathing and change facilities and ensuite bathrooms.

What this means for the local workforce
The new hospital building program will significantly benefit the local communities of Casey and Cardinia. We currently employ more than 400 caregiver staff, and the new hospital will create in excess of 200 new jobs.
This is also good news for our medical professionals, with an additional 100 medical and surgical professionals expected to administer the new and expanded services – up from the 500 visiting doctors we currently have working with us.
We need you
We are committed to making sure our health services support the growing communities we service. Join us and be apart of a new era in health care by applying upcoming employment opportunities. Employment opportunities for the new hospital closed on Friday 18th August 2017. If you have missed this date, don't despair, there will be ongoing opportunities once doors open in 2018. Please register and create an account to be notified via email of relevant jobs as they become available into the future.
You can support the redevelopment by donating to this project through St John of God Foundation. As a not-for-profit organisation all donations go back into the community we serve. You can choose to donate to our redevelopment or another project.
