The hospital, a division of St John of God Health Care, has donated more than 9,000 vials of saline to fire fighters and other emergency services after it was identified that these were a much sought after item on the fire grounds.

Hawkesbury District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Strephon Billinghurst said the hospital was pleased to be able to support the emergency workers who have been battling the blaze that has affected the region since October.

“Our staff not only work in the region but live here too and many have either been personally affected or have friends and families that have been impacted by the recent devastating fires,” he said.

“We were keen to offer their assistance in whatever way they could and we were delighted that we could offer the donation of saline vials to make a difference to those who are protecting our community.”

The hospital has also provided laundry services and is support staff to donate their time or services.

“We have laundered over 70 police uniforms for those officers who have spent time on the fire grounds,” Mr Billinghurst said.

“We are also putting the call out to our staff for donations of non-perishable snack foods and within one day we have stock piles of a variety of foods to keep our firefighters nourished.”
