Healthy Men, Healthy Minds finalists decided
21 June 2017
A record number of entries were submitted into the Healthy Men, Healthy Minds photo competition this year with the top 10 chosen by popular vote.
The top 10 images feature a range of special moments from a dad and his children at his wedding to dads and grandads playing on the playground and at the beach.
St John of God Raphael Services National Director Helen McAllister said the images showed a great representation of the roles men can play in children’s lives.
“Importantly, they show how essential it is for men to stay on top of their emotional wellbeing so they can enjoy and share these special times,” she said.
“Each year we run the photo competition to promote emotional wellbeing during Men’s Health Week and raise awareness of perinatal mental health. We know that up to one in 10 men experience anxiety when they welcome a new baby or when their partner is pregnant.”
Helen said the record number of entries submitted this year was pleasing as it showed more people were becoming aware of the importance of maintaining good emotional health.
“We also want to give men the tools they need so they can get help when they do have concerns about their emotional wellbeing,” she said.
“As a part of this competition, our mental health experts provided their tips to maintain good emotional wellbeing and we also highlighted our St John of God Raphael Services which provides free support for dads, mums and families during the perinatal period,” she said.
