What mums love about private maternity care

Midwife Emma Cook has years of experience working on maternity wards. She shares the feedback she has received from new mums about what they love when they choose private maternity care.

Mums love: Trying before you buy

Lots of mums don’t realise that they can actually take a step inside maternity wards to see them for themselves, rather than only relying on recommendations from their friends and family members about where to give birth.

You can take a maternity tour on our hospital wards before you are pregnant or in the first few weeks of pregnancy so you can see if the hospital feels right for you.

During the tour you meet midwives, see the hospital wards and labour suites.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions about what to expect in hospital and what we offer you (including little extras which can make all the difference).

Mums love: partners being able to stay overnight

When you are welcoming a new baby into your family, you don’t want your partner to have limitations on when they can be with you.

On our private maternity wards we welcome and encourage partners to stay overnight with you and your newborn.

This is a great bonding time for the new family and isn’t something that is available if you choose to give birth in the public hospital system.

Mums love: breastfeeding support

Breastfeeding can be hard, especially in the first few days. Mums love having access to our lactation consultants and midwives who are always on hand to help.

When you choose private maternity you often benefit from a longer stay in hospital. This means that breastfeeding support is available not only in the first 24 hours after you give birth but over the first few days which is critical as your milk supply can change a lot in this time.

Mums love: Choice

When you first find out you are pregnant, you are presented with a whole new range of decisions that you may not have considered before.

When you choose private maternity care, you can choose to be cared for by an obstetrician of your choice as well as choosing the hospital where you want to give birth.

This means that you get to choose someone who you know and trust to guide you through your pregnancy as well as choosing a hospital where you feel comfortable.
