This role will see Clive combine his extensive business experience and an in-depth knowledge of the organisation to oversee governance, stewardship and provide advice on strategic direction to the board and executive team of the not-for-profit Catholic health care group.
Clive’s 25-year-long association with the group began with St John of God Hospital Subiaco in the 1980s as an advisor, continued as an inaugural board member on St John of God Health Care’s
establishment as a unified group in the early 1990s, and culminated with his joining the Trustees in 2009 and current appointment.
Clive said: “The chair of Trustees needs to have a good knowledge of the workings of St John of God Health Care. In my case, a long association has helped me to achieve that. I am looking
forward to continuing the excellent work that has been done by our outgoing chair, Don Good, and all of the other dedicated trustees.”
Don, who has a similarly long association with the organisation, said that the organisation’s bicameral governance structure has proven to be very effective.
“While recognising differences in our responsibilities, we have established a very efficient working relationship with the board, and I believe this has been an integral part of the success of St John of
God Health Care,” Don said.
The Trustees will continue to play an important part in building upon this success, which has seen the organisation grow since 2002 from seven hospitals to 13 hospitals by 2010. Also during this
time, the group has acquired or launched a variety of new services such as a wide ranging social outreach program, home nursing and disability services, as well as moving into new geographical
areas, including New South Wales and New Zealand.
Another focus which Clive will continue is the relationship and communication between the Trustees and the Members of St John of God Australia Ltd, which sponsors the ministry. Members include the Sisters of St John of God, the Hospitaller Order of St John of God, and the ten Dioceses in which St John of God Health Care has facilities.
Born in Perth and educated at Aquinas College and the University of Western Australia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Clive is qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Certified Practising Accountant, and is an active member of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
