Peter was requested by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to provide key information to families accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as a panellist at a recent NDIA webinar in Canberra.

The webinar focused on NDIS readiness with Peter providing insights from experiences of working with families transitioning into the NDIS at St John of God Accord. The webinar also covered the basics of developing and starting a first plan, implementation and flexibility around a plan.

“The webinar reached thousands of listeners, mainly families. The Agency record over 500 plus episodes of engagement throughout the live recording,” Peter said.

“It was very informative, and sharing my experiences enabled families to be more comfortable in starting their plans. It can be quite daunting initially for families but their fears appeared to be alleviated as we navigated through the session.”

Peter was joined by NDIA CEO David Bowen, Facilitator Sue Salthouse, Uniting Northern Sydney District Manager of Local Area Coordination Transition Services Angela Yee and Luke Nelson a 27-year-old man with Cerebral Palsy who participated via video link.

St John of God Accord Chief Executive Officer Tony Hollamby said sharing knowledge about the new scheme was important for families and organisations alike.

“As an organisation, we strive to support our clients and families in delivering expertise knowledge about the NDIS, our door is always open,” he said.

The NDIS was formally rolled out on July 1, 2016 and will be completed in two and half years with an estimated 430,000 Australians accessing the scheme.
