A result of a significant investment, the new facilities will include a new medical services building, a new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit, two new operating theatres, a new 30-bed in-patient ward and an expanded recovery room.

St John of God Ballarat Hospital CEO Maria Noonan said the redevelopment would provide comprehensive world-class facilities to meet the growing needs of the Ballarat community as well as the region’s growing population.

“Our new facilities will ensure our patients and their loved ones can have access to the very best care in a warm and welcoming environment, right here in their local community – without the need to travel outside the region,” she said.

The new facilities complement the recently opened high-tech catheter lab and Central Sterile Services Department. The catheter lab is already supporting a range of cardiac diagnostic and intervention procedures with enhanced precision and patient care while the sterile services are vital to safety.

This hospital growth continues the legacy and mission of the Sisters of St John of God which began in 1871 and brought them to Ballarat in 1915 to serve and care for the local community.

The hospital expansion is one of many building projects to be completed this year by St John of God Health Care across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia, providing new and innovative services and improvements to patient and caregiver experiences.
