St John of God Health Care has announced the appointment of Professor Peter Bremner to its Board.
His appointment takes effect from 1 November.
Professor Bremner is a highly respected thoracic physician and Professor for Respiratory Medicine, at St John of God Murdoch Hospital.
He has a long association with St John of God Health Care, contributing significantly to medical governance and clinical excellence throughout this time.
He has been Chairman of the St John of God Murdoch Hospital Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) since 2003, was Chairman of the Physicians Craft Group at the hospital from 2018-22, and is a serving member of the St John of God Health Care Patient Experience and Clinical Excellence (PEaCE) and the Clinical Incident Review Board subcommittees.
He has also played an active roles in the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand at both a Federal and State level, holding a broad range of committee positions over many years. He has held committee positions at Fremantle Hospital and Mount Hospital.
He is currently on the Board of Sleep Studies Australia and is the Medical Director of TrialsWest, a private fully funded respiratory clinical trials group.
St John of God Health Care Board Chair Hon Kerry Sanderson AC CVO said that Peter’s appointment would continue the emphasis on the governance of clinical safety and medical excellence, one of the Board’s primary areas of focus.
“Peter has breadth and depth of experience at St John of God Health Care as both a clinician and from a governance perspective, providing a unique insight and perspective which has already and will continue to contribute to the Board’s oversight of these critical areas,” she said.
“He has also demonstrated great ongoing commitment to the Mission and values of St John of God Health Care and the Board very much looks forward to working with him.”
Professor Bremner holds medical degrees from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and became a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1993. He has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course, and is the recipient of numerous scholarships and prizes. He became the Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Notre Dame Australia in 2015 and is actively involved in both undergraduate and post graduate teaching, in addition to leading an active clinical research program with TrialsWest.
In 2012, he was awarded Doctor of the Year at St John of God Murdoch Hospital.
