St John of God Bunbury Hospital announces new private hospital in Vasse

St John of God Bunbury Hospital, part of St John of God Health Care, has announced its intention to build a new stand-alone day hospital in conjunction with development partners Blackoak Capital Ventures and Invested Health Developments in Vasse, in the South West region of Western Australia.

While still subject to a number of regulatory and other approvals, building of the new facility is hoped to commence in 2023.

Once operational, the hospital will provide 23 hour surgical services, day oncology, dialysis, ambulatory services such as physiotherapy, and consulting rooms for specialist doctors to use.

St John of God Bunbury Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Williams said there was an increased need to deliver care closer to the growing community in Busselton and broader Margaret River region, so patients would not need to travel to Bunbury or Perth to receive high quality health services.

As the State’s largest operator of regional private hospitals, this new opportunity demonstrates St John of God Health Care’s long-standing commitment to regional Western Australia.

“We have been part of the south west community for almost 100 years and remain deeply committed to this region.

“The project is evidence of St John of God Health Care’s long term commitment and forward planning in this growing region where we have deep roots,” he said.

“This new facility will allow our team of specialist doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to continue to provide high quality, compassionate and contemporary care across the south west region which has a continued growth trajectory.

“Our focus is always on what is best for our patients so they can rest assured that they are receiving the best treatment for their condition closer to home, and their support networks.”
The proposed development will see St John of God Bunbury Hospital operate services in a facility developed in partnership with Blackoak.

Adopting a partnership approach, Blackoak Capital Ventures and their partner, Invested Health Developments, identified a site in the Vasse Town Centre and entered into arrangements to secure the 1.3 hectare property capable of delivering a long term solution for St John of God Health Care’s operations in the South West, the fastest growing region of Western Australia.  The Vasse Town Centre was chosen because of its strong connectivity to the region being situated on the junction of the Busselton Bypass and Bussell Highway along with the existing vibrant amenity provided by the established cafes, shops and local businesses.

“We are always looking to develop and grow long term relationships with our partners such as St John of God Health Care and we’re very excited about the project that we are seeking to deliver together,” said Blackoak Capital Ventures Managing Partner Tim Mack.

The land is currently owned by a joint venture of Perron Developments Pty Ltd and Stawell Pty Ltd. Lyle Kenny, Perron Developments General Manager of Land Development, said he was excited about the project that St John of God and Blackoak are progressing in Vasse Village.

“From its inception, the Vasse Development Partners have pursued their vision to create a Village that provides residents, and the broader South West community, with access to a range of services and amenities to meet their day to day needs,” he said.

“The development of a substantial health care facility will enhance the appeal of Vasse Village as a destination of choice, while further complementing our focus on innovative design, landscaping, and public artworks to create a unique village environment.”
