Ownership of St John of God Pathology’s 19 laboratories and more than 180 collection centres in Victoria and Western Australia will transfer to Clinical Labs on Monday 10 October, 2016 with no
interruption to service for patients, its people and referring doctors and hospitals.
The services acquired by Clinical Labs will continue to operate under the St John of God Pathology brand for a period of up to twelve months while they are fully integrated and rebranded.
As part of the sale, St John of God Health Care will gain a minority shareholding in Clinical Labs and Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Stanford, will take a position on the Board of Clinical Labs.
Clinical Labs will also have a long term contract to provide high quality pathology services to St John of God Health Care hospitals.
Group CEO Dr Michael Stanford said St John of God Health Care was looking forward to working in partnership with Clinical Labs.
“Clinical Labs is currently the third largest pathology service provider in Australia and the acquisition of our services provides them with a presence in Western Australia and helps them achieve the scale required to grow in a challenging industry and provide a credible large third service in Australia, which is critical for competition and consumers.
“Partnering with a high quality pathology provider will allow us to focus on our core strength, providing hospital services.”
Since 2003 St John of God Health Care has been undertaking a growth strategy to open new hospitals and expand existing services to meet community need.
In the last year St John of God Health Care opened St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals in Western Australia and acquired Hawkesbury District Health Service in New South
Wales.
This year the group will continue with redevelopments of its hospitals in Murdoch in Western Australia and Bendigo and Geelong in Victoria as well as construction of the new St John of God Berwick Hospital serving the community in Melbourne’s south east corridor.
