A time lapse video of construction progress that documents the rise of what is now the tallest building in Midland has been released to celebrate the milestone:

With the structure completed and the building at its full height, construction of the brick and metal façade and the detailed internal fit out of wards and treatment areas is well underway. A fully equipped mock-up of an emergency treatment bay in the public hospital’s emergency department lets clinical staff and visitors see how treatment spaces will promote efficient workflow, which is extremely important considering that the busy department is expected to treat 55,000 patients in its first full year of operation.

According to CEO Ian Anderson, the milestone confirms the ongoing success of St John of God Health Care’s public private partnership with the State Government and the expertise of managing contractor, Brookfield Multiplex. “While the construction program remains a priority, the excellent progress means that our project team can increasingly focus on the operational planning required to open the hospitals including recruiting more than 1,000 staff,” Ian said.

Brookfield Multiplex’s Regional Managing Director, Chris Palandri, confirmed that construction of the public and private hospitals is on schedule and on budget. “We are delighted to have a valued long-term partnership with St John of God Health Care, delivering new health facilities both here in Midland and in Murdoch,” Chris said.

With 307 public beds, the public hospital will offer a wide range of services to the communities of Perth’s eastern suburbs and areas of the Wheatbelt, while the 60-bed integrated private hospital will offer the choice of private health care. State and Commonwealth Governments have jointly invested $360 million in the public hospital project that will be operated by St John of God Health Care under a public private partnership agreement.

The WA-based private health care operator is investing $70 million in the private hospital.
