Making dreams a reality
Dream A Little Dream is a special program designed to grant a wish to palliative patients and their loved ones during end of life care.
These small acts of kindness are intended to bring some light to what is usually a very sad time, creating beautiful memories for loved ones and bringing joy by making a patient's dream come true.
The dreams are small but meaningful experiences that can usually be offered in hospital and include experiences such as a pamper treatment, a shave and haircut, a visit from a beloved pet, a romantic dinner for two, a family dinner party, art therapy, dignity therapy, yoga and reiki.
A custom dream can be initiated by a special interest, an unfulfilled childhood dream, a passion for a particular hobby or anything the mind can imagine.
We work with the patients and their families to make a wish a reality.
To help patients’ dreams come true you can make an online donation – just select ‘St John of God Berwick Hospital – Dream a Little Dream’ as the project on the second page of our online donation form.
Leonie Hollingworth, a lifelong Melbourne Demons fan, was able to watch her beloved team play in the final game of the round and we arranged for club legend Russell Robertson to spend time with her at her bedside.
Gina, a mum of two young girls, was receiving palliative care at our hospital. We organised a professional photoshoot, a wig for Gina to wear and professional makeup for Gina and her daughters. The beautiful photos were gifted to the family and printed onto polar fleece blankets for her daughters to snuggle and keep as a memory of their mother.
