Ethics Committee
Along with single site research, the Committee
welcomes internal and external researcher submissions of
multicentre research proposals.
The St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) Ethics Committee approves
a wide range of research projects each year, including clinical
trials and qualitative studies in oncology, pathology, mental
health, nursing anaesthesia, palliative care and population
health.
The Committee is a 'Reviewing Human Research Ethics Committee'
(HREC) under the National Certification Scheme of Institutions for
multicentre ethical review processes. Along with single site
research, the Committee welcomes internal and external researcher
submissions of multicentre research proposals: clinical trials
phase II & III, qualitative health, population and/or public
health, clinical interventions, mental health, and genetic,
pathology/biobank research
The Ethics Committee functions as both a:
- HREC properly constituted and operating in accordance with the
National
Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC’s) National Statement
on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007); and
- Clinical Ethics Committee.
As a Catholic Health Care Provider, SJGHC follows a code of
ethics as outlined in the Code of
Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services in
Australia (CHA, 2001).
