Acute pain service

The acute pain service provides care to inpatients who have strong, temporary pain following a surgery, trauma or medical condition.

What is acute pain?

Acute pain refers to pain after a surgery or following the start of a painful condition, such as trauma, acute medical condition, or a physiological process such as labour.

Acute pain is pain that:

  • lasts for a short time
  • stops when your wound heals or your medical condition improves.

Our service

Our acute pain service, led by a clinical nurse specialist and anaesthetist, reviews your pain needs when you have patient controlled intravenous analgesia, an epidural or regional devices.

We provide 24 hour cover and urgent review for patients at hospital.
