In addition to hospitals, pathology and home nursing services, St John of God Health Care operates numerous Social Outreach and Advocacy Services - reaching out to people experiencing disadvantage to improve health and wellbeing.

Social Outreach and Advocacy Services include the following:

Early Years Services

  • Raphael Centres - providing support and treatment to parents and families who are affected by anxiety, stress, or depression during pregnancy and following childbirth for up to three years of age. Located in Victoria (Ballarat, Bendigo, Berwick, Geelong, and South West Victoria), Western Australia (Perth and Fremantle) and New South Wales (Blacktown).

Youth Services

  • Horizon House - Long-term accommodation and intensive support for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelesness - houses at ten locations across Victoria and Western Australia.
  • Waipuna - A specialist youth agency in Christchurch, New Zealand, providing young people, their families/whanau and the community with support and opportunities to develop.
  • Bloomsbury House - Support service for young people (12 to 25) with co-occurring substance use and mental health problems in Ballarat, Victoria.

Aboriginal Health Services

  • Strong Family, Strong Culture - Working with Aboriginal women and their families during pregnancy and early childhood (up to the age of five) to improve maternal and child health and wellbeing - Western Australia.
  • Horizon House Broome - specific support for Indigenous young people in need of long term accommodation and care.

Disability Services

  • St John of God Accord - Support service for people with intellectual disabilities in Melbourne, Victoria.
  • Casa Venegas - Service providing accommodation and support for people with chronic mental illness who would otherwise be homeless in Sydney, New South Wales.
  • St John of God Halswell - long-term residential support for physically and neurologically disabled adults between the ages of 16 and 65 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
  • St John of God Wellington - A supported residential facility for physically disabled adults in Wellington, New Zealand.

Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services

  • DAWN - The only home-based Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Network (DAWN) in Perth.
  • Murdoch Community Mental Health - Community-based mental health services including counselling and social and emotional wellbeing operated from Ferns House in Fremantle.
  • Pomegranate House - Community psychology service in Ballarat, Victoria, providing counselling to low income earners.
  • South West Community Drug Service Team - A specialist team working with clients within the south west of Western Australia to reduce the harm associated with the use of alcohol and other drugs.
