2016 in review at St John of God Health Care

10 January 2017

In 2016 we treated more than 347,000 patients, providing over 215,000 overnight, same day and outpatient procedures during the calendar year.

Our maternity units were kept busy, welcoming more than 12,800 babies, a new record for St John of God Health Care - including 139 multiple births.

We continued work on stage two of the redevelopment at St John of God Murdoch Hospital, the $41 million redevelopment at St John of God Bendigo Hospital, the $21 million upgrade and expansion of cardiac services at St John of God Geelong Hospital and the $17 million upgrade at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital.

Our Social Outreach services provided over 12,000 counselling sessions to more than 1,700 new parents through Raphael Services and supported over 60 young people access to employment or tertiary education through Horizon House.

In 2016 we also transferred our Pathology division to Clinical Labs, to fund ongoing investment in hospital services and expand existing services to meet community need.

In 2017 we are looking forward to:

  • The new seven-storey $120 million St John of God Berwick Hospital opening its doors.
    It will provide:
  • 190 new beds
  • six operating theatres,
  • a cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory
  • two endoscopy theatres
  • six birthing suites.
  • The first intensive care unit in the region, and
  • create 200 new jobs.
  • We anticipate opening a new Horizon House service for young people in Ballarat, and another house opening in Bendigo. Our Raphael Services will expand its satellite services in Midland and a new service will be established in Cockburn, south of Perth.

As we reflect on 2016 we thank our patients, doctors, caregivers and allied health professionals and we look forward to growing our commitment to high quality care further in 2017.

Please note the above figures for 2016 are calendar year statistics. Full details of St John of God Health Care’s financial year performance for 2015/2016 can be found in our annual report.
