Research

Pathologists looking down microscope

Although private hospitals have traditionally been primarily focused upon the immediate care of their patients, we have recently moved to develop research on-site and to support research more broadly.

The appointment, in 2007, of University of Western Australia Professor Cameron Platell as Director of Colorectal Cancer Research and Director of Research in Cancer Services has seen the growth of research into this important disease both at our Hospital and also through important collaborative networks across Perth.

The active participation of our Medical Oncology Specialists in trials of new anti-cancer therapies makes us one of the leading centres in Australia for recruitment to these drug trials.

There is now a groundswell of support for research within St John of God Health Care with the establishment of Research Foundations, to fund the costs of research well advanced.

We aim to become a much more substantial source of medical and nursing research and a worthy partner in academic output across the board.
