Community projects
Support for Aboriginal medical and dental
students
This initiative, in partnership with the
University of Western Australia,
focuses on the provision of resources and equipment as direct
student support, financial support for students to attend
conferences/workshops and sponsorship of students to complete their
studies.
ASeTTS
ASeTTS provides services to people
who are humanitarian entrants or are from a refugee type background
and who have experienced torture or trauma in their country of
origin, during their flight to Australia or while in
detention. We are in partnership with ASeTTS so that they
are able to provide a playgroup aimed at preventing long term
developmental and behavioural problems for children from refugee
backgrounds.
CanTeen
Over the next two years, our cargivers have committed to
being a part of the two, week long division camps run each
year. CanTeen supports, develops and
empowers young people living with cancer through a number of camps
and programs during the year.
Camp Quality
Camp Quality is a national organisation that
provides services to children living with cancer and their
families. Camp Quality runs a multitude of camps and
programmes throughout the year.
Caregivers at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
are given the opportunity to partner with Camp Quality during their
week long camps and are supported with community support
leave.
Rafiki
The Rafiki Surgical Missions (Rafiki) in WA
was established in 2004 to work closely with Interplast Australia
and Host hospitals in Tanzania. Located in Perth Western Australia,
Rafiki performs operations on children who would otherwise not have
access to such specialist services. Rafiki conducts up to three
missions per year.
St John of God Subiaco Hospital supports Rafiki through the
provision of funding and the opportunity for caregivers to use
their expertise in support of those who are in need.
Operation Rainbow
Operation Rainbow Australia Ltd (ORAL) was
established in Perth in 1995, and has been conducting surgical
missions each year to help these children who would otherwise not
have the opportunity to have this life changing surgery. At each
mission, hundreds of children arrive to seek treatment, many who
have travelled several days to be seen, and these trips from
international organisations allow 3000 children to be treated each
year.
St John of God Subiaco Hospital began
providing the funding for the yearly ORAL mission to Cebu, the
second largest island in the Philippines, in 2010 and covers the
costs for medications, instruments and anaesthetic machines to be
sent to the Philippines.
