Post traumatic stress disorder
You are not alone
Our Inpatient Trauma Program addresses the
needs of those clients who have experienced adult trauma(s) and
meet partial or full criteria for a diagnosis of Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The inpatient group program is 3 weeks in
duration. It aims to provide information about PTSD, increase
awareness and insight into the impact of PTSD symptoms on quality
of life, and teach/reinforce skills to assist in the stabilisation
and management of PTSD symptoms. Our program incorporates cognitive
behavioural principles, mindfulness-based practices and solution
focussed approaches. It also aims to facilitate engagement in
ongoing care post-discharge and includes an information session for
family/carers.
Our expert, experienced team of
psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and other allied health
professionals work with patients both individually and in a group
therapy setting. In addition to the group program and access
to hospital-wide services, patients have access to individual
sessions with a psychologist for additional support.
Many patients admitted to our trauma unit
suffer from co-morbid mood, anxiety and/or substance dependence
disorders. When a patient is admitted to the unit an
assessment is conducted to determine the most appropriate service
for their presenting problems and referrals may be made to
alternative group programs e.g. alcohol detoxification prior to
their commencing the inpatient trauma program.
