Outreach
Social Outreach and Advocacy services provided by St John of
God Murdoch Hospital reflect an active commitment to the
community we serve. The mental, physical, social and emotional
wellbeing of clients is paramount and the services are lead by the
needs of the individuals and families with who
m we work.
Our service is guided by the five core values of St John of God
Health Care, which are: Hospitality, Compassion, Respect, Justice
and Excellence.
We aim to:
- Support clients’ right to self-determination
- Recognise and respect the unique physical emotional,
social, cultural and spiritual dimensions of each individual
- Work in partnership with general practitioners and other human
service agencies, in the best interests of the client
- Encourage family involvement and access to information
- Foster the ability to use psychological distress as a
developmental process, so that it does not hinder or impair further
development.
About us:
In 2004, St John of God Murdoch Hospital began funding a Community
Mental Health Service to offer accessible and low/no cost services
for vulnerable population groups. In the first year 250 clients
with anxiety and depression were seen. By 2010 the service had
expanded and had 363 new clients. In total 2,600 clients from
across the south metropolitan area of Perth have now accessed
counselling.
