Murdoch celebrates 18 years of quality services
St John of God
Murdoch Hospital celebrated its 18th birthday with a certificate
presentation recognising the hospital’s recent accreditation by the
Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS).
ACHS Chief Executive Officer Brian
Johnston handed over the certificate to Murdoch CEO Peter Mott at a
celebration morning tea on Friday 10 February.
The hospital officially recognises its
first 18 years of service in the community with hospital-wide
celebrations on Tuesday 14 February.
Mr Mott said that the hospital was
committed to continuously reviewing and improving the services it
provides to patients.
“Since the hospital opened in 1994, our
commitment to quality has been the cornerstone of our services. In
our first eighteen years, we have provided our distinctive care to
more than half a million inpatients and 300,000 emergency patients,
delivered almost 20,000 babies, and provided employment for
thousands of people in the south metropolitan region,” said Mr
Mott.
“Our $200m+ expansion is further evidence
of our commitment to the local community. By 2020, we will be
welcoming more than 65,000 patients to Murdoch each year, and
providing even more employment opportunities,” he said.
“This accreditation result reaffirms that
the care we provide is of the highest quality, and that we have a
dedicated team of caregivers who are committed to achieving the
best possible outcomes for our patients. It’s rewarding to have
this recognised by independent surveyors,” said Mr Mott.
As part of ACHS accreditation, Murdoch
was awarded an Outstanding Achievement (OA) for the hospital’s
comprehensive environmental sustainability program which included
the installation of large scale solar panels for preheating of
hospital water to reduce gas consumption, resulting in a 10%
reduction in gas use in the first quarter of operation.
