Environment
St John of God Health Care demonstrates ecological
concern and respect for the Earth.
The highlighted statement (above right) - from our cornerstone
document, Our Vision
2010-2014 - strongly supports environmental
stewardship with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of
our everyday activities.
Our desire to care for each other and the environment is
captured in our environmental logo, which was developed to
highlight and support environmental initiatives.
Our Group Environmental Management Network comprises
representatives from all divisions and continues to develop
programs to reduce waste, water, energy and greenhouse emissions
and ensure compliance with current and emerging legislation.
The network is building a culture of environmental stewardship
within the organisation, which includes an Environmental Action
Plan focusing on 10 areas:
- Environmental management system
- Waste management
- Energy management
- Water management
- Greenhouse gas management and abatement
- Environmentally preferable purchasing
- Ecologically sustainable design
- Reducing paper use
- Environmental awareness
- Environmental funding
Our journey towards an environmentally sustainable future has
included investing in an environmental Capital Expenditure Fund to
support divisions to minimise the environmental impact of
their activities. The fund has already committed over
$1.5m since 2007/08 to fund 38 capital projects reducing
energy, water and waste in our divisions. All projects have a long
term, sustainable benefit.
