Social Outreach and Advocacy
While St John of God Health Care is primarily known for
hospitals and pathology services, we have a long
history working with and helping people within the community.
We are committed to providing significant care and relief for
people experiencing disadvantage throughout Australia, New Zealand
and the Asia Pacific region, particularly in areas with identified
gaps in service provision. We recognise that the provision of
care and relief for people who are disadvantaged
is central to our mission of healing. Through our Social Outreach and
Advocacy program, we contribute towards just and inclusive
communities where the dignity of each person is respected
and supported.
At St John of God Hospital Geraldton, our local Social
Outreach and Advocacy initiatives include:
Caregivers Caring Initiative
St John of God Hospital caregivers financially support an
evening meal for up to 30 people every seven weeks. The meals
are provided for Camaliers Guest house, which provides low cost
accommodation for those in need.
Centacare Young Mum’s Group
Hospital midwives work in collaboration with Centacare to
facilitate a support group for young mothers. The group meets
weekly during school terms and covers a wide range of mothercraft
skills. For further information and booking please contact
Centacare on 9921 1433.
Community Leave for Caregivers
We encourage and support the participation of caregivers in
voluntary community service for the disadvantaged through by
providing Community Support Leave, which is a form of paid and
unpaid leave.
Indigenous scholarships
We offer two annual scholarships to indigenous students
studying either registered or enrolled nursing. To be eligible

Manna Meals
The hospital operates a home catering and meal
delivery service which is available to patients and others in the
community, offering nutritious fresh or frozen meals at an
affordable price. The service won the Western Australia Customer
Service Council’s Outstanding Achievement - Best in the West
2008 award.
Red Cross soup program
The hospital kitchen assists the Red Cross and
Suncity Christian Centre Soup Program by preparing soup twice
weekly, which Red Cross volunteers deliver to people in need.
