A Career at St John of God Hospital Burwood

A Caring Employer - St John of God Health Care is built on a history of caring for people

We strive for a relationship of mutual respect, trust and dignity with caregivers as we work together to achieve our Vision and Mission. As an organisation with Values, caring for one another is an essential part of who we are as an employer. A wide network of support services is available in the workplace for general advice and assistance in addition to the support provided within traditional supervisory and management roles. These include our Director of Mission, Employee Assistance Program and Human Resources Advisers.

EOWA logoEmployer of Choice for Women Award

St John of God Health Care has for the 8th consecutive year been named by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) as one of Australia's employers of choice for women. The award is national recognition of St John of God Health Care's policies and practices which recognise and advance its predominantly female workforce and provide a flexible workplace for all caregivers, and value their family commitments and respect work-life balance.

Competitive salaries and general conditions

We continually review salary levels and general employment conditions to remain an attractive employer. Not only are our rates of pay competitive within the relevant market, but we are continually reviewing general employment policies and benefits to ensure we meet the expectations of caregivers.

Paid parental leave

Eight weeks paid parental leave is available to primary caregivers for the birth or adoption of a child.

Salary packaging

Salary Packaging is an optional benefit available to all permanent caregivers. This benefit arises because we are a Public Benevolent Institution for Fringe Benefits Tax purposes. Salary packaging allows caregivers to forego part of their taxable income in return for other benefits, such as mortgage payments or additional superannuation payments. The amount foregone is a reduction in gross salary, which results in tax savings.

Extensive orientation programs

We understand that starting with a new organisation can be daunting as well as exciting. Every new caregiver attends an extensive orientation process in their first weeks of employment.

Commitment to learning and development

We are committed to life long learning, continuing improvement and developing caregivers through innovative, creative and nurturing educational opportunities relevant to their position and occupation.
Our vision is to inspire and capture caregivers' enthusiasm through learning and to facilitate personal and professional growth reflecting our Mission, Values and strategic direction. We achieve this by providing a wide range of professional educational and learning opportunities.

Family friendly workplace

Balancing the demands of work and family is one of the challenges facing many employees today. That's why part-time employment, flexible rostering and flexible leave arrangements are just some of the options available to you to assist in balancing work and family.

Occupational Health & Safety

The safety and health of caregivers is an ongoing priority. Extensive OH&S systems are in place to ensure that workplace hazards are effectively managed so our caregivers can work in a safe and healthy workplace.
