South West Community Drug Service Team
The community we serve
The St John of God Bunbury Hospital
South West Community Drug Service Team is a specialist,
multi-disciplinary team working with clients in Western Australia’s
South West to reduce the harm associated with the use of alcohol
and other drugs.
The team has worked within the South West
community since 1998, providing information, resources,
consultation, and education and counselling with confidentiality
assured.
The team also works closely with youth and
mental health service providers, medical and health professionals,
Department of Child Protection, Department of Corrective Services,
several Aboriginal Health Services, other human service providers
and local communities.
Our aim is to provide free of charge where possible,
easily accessible counselling and support for individuals and their
'significant others' and consultation, shared case management,
information, education, intervention, training and counselling for
the community of the South West.
Our range of services
The services provided have been created by
identifying ‘gaps’ within existing community services and
developing services to meet those needs.
This has created opportunity to access those
most at risk and provide relevant and appropriate care, free of
charge and readily available, across a wide geographical area.
The South West encompasses an area of 24,000
square kilometres, extending from Yarloop in the north, Augusta in
the south and east to Walpole.
The region has a population of around 141,000, which accounts
for around 7% of the State’s population, and attracts a very high
number of tourists throughout the year.
People who wish to access the service can
simply contact us direct to speak in confidence with a counsellor
and to arrange an appointment.
