Reducing our environmental footprint
St John of God Health Care will demonstrate
ecological concern and respect for the Earth.

The highlighted statement on the far right - from our
cornerstone document, Our Vision 2010-2014 - strongly
supports environmental stewardship with the aim of reducing the
environmental impact of our everyday activities
Our desire to care for each other and the environment is
captured in our environmental logo (above), which was developed to
highlight and support our environmental initiatives.
Our Group Environmental Management Network comprises
representatives from all divisions and continues to develop
programs to reduce waste, water, energy and greenhouse emissions
and ensure compliance with current and emerging legislation.
The network is building a culture of environmental stewardship
within the organisation, which includes an Environmental Action
Plan focusing on 10 areas:
- Environmental management system
- Waste management
- Energy management
- Water management
- Greenhouse gas management and abatement
- Environmentally preferable purchasing
- Ecologically sustainable design
- Reducing paper use
- Environmental awareness
- Environmental funding
Our journey towards an environmentally sustainable future has
included investing in an Enviornmental Capital Expenditure Fund to
support divisions ot minimise the environmental impact of their
activities. The fund has committed over $1.5m in 2007/08 and
2008/09 to fund 38 capital projects reducing energy, water and
waste in our divisions. All projects have a long term, sustainable
benefit.
