Dietetics
The dietetic service at St John of God
Hospital Bendigo assists patients during their stay.
The dietitian can help with nutrition
education in relation to the current condition, and also provide
assistance with menu planning while in hospital.
They work with the diet monitors,
kitchen, doctor, nurses and all other care staff to ensure that
nutritional needs of the patient are met.
Improved nutritional intake can assist in a range of
medical conditions, including:
- Weight loss
- Weight gain
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Coeliac disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Surgery impacting on gastrointestinal
function
- Cancer and related treatments
- Osteoporosis
- Eating disorders
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Anything related to food and nutrition
Referrals
Referrals can be accepted directly from the
patient's doctor, any staff member involved in the patient’s care,
or the patient themself. The dietitian also offers a nutrition and
dietetic service to clients of the Diabetes and Endocrine Clinic and the
Cardiac
Rehabilitation program.
