GP referrals

All standard medical and surgical outpatient referrals (not maternity or allied health) should be sent directly to WA Health's Central Referral Service (CRS):

The CRS covers GP/external referrals for a first outpatient appointment with a specialist at a clinic within a public metropolitan hospital. The CRS accepts referrals for a number of doctor-led specialities. For a full list of in and out of scope specialities, further information on referral access criteria (RAC) and how to submit a referral through CRS please refer to: Central Referral Service guide for referrers. Please note, referrals to specialties with RACs must meet the RAC to be accepted. Referrals which do not contain sufficient information to allow accurate triaging of the priority of the referral will be returned to the referrer.

Urgent medical and surgical referrals

All urgent medical and surgical referrals (ie; patient needs to be seen within seven days) should be directed to the relevant on-call consultant via the GP hotline: 08 9462 4222.

All obstetric referrals should be sent by the GP directly to the hospital via:

Referrals for allied health and outpatient services

Outpatient services have a separate referral pathways, including Midland Physician Service, orthopedic services, allied health, general outpatient services.

Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS)

The EPAS is suitable for women in the first trimester who are experiencing a serious issue with their pregnancy that does not require urgent attention.

EPAS clinics are undertaken on Mondays and Thursdays from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. GP referrals are required (please mark them as needing urgent attention and call as well to ensure a prompt response)

Allied health and general outpatients appointments

Allied health appointments include: dietetics, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, social work and speech pathology.

General outpatients appointments include: continence, diabetes (nurse-led clinics), ENT (internal referrals only), fracture clinic (internal referrals only), general surgery, geriatric medicine, genecology, obstetrics, oncology, ophthalmology (Medicare referrals only), pediatrics medicine, plastics (Medicare referrals only), stroke, stomal therapy, urology (Medicare referrals only) and wound management.

Multidisciplinary Complex Foot Service 

Our Multidisciplinary Complex Foot Service provides assessment, management and coordination of care for acute or chronic foot problems that are at high risk of admission and amputation. 

The service combines podiatry with diabetes physicians/endocrinologists, infectious disease specialists and vascular surgeon. The multi-disciplinary team approach can improve outcomes for conditions, such as diabetic foot ulceration, poor circulation, severe infection and Charcot foot.

To refer patients residing in our catchment area, please use the referral form (do not send referral to CRS).

For an urgent outpatient referral, GPs can contact the Red Hot Foot line on 08 9462 4325 (business hours).
