Michael Hogan is a Chief Executive Officer with over 25 years’ public and private health care experience. He is a Chartered Accountant with certifications in health services, health care management and administration, leadership, and culture. 

Michael has a comprehensive skillset with board appointments as Non-Executive Director at Geelong Community Care Chemists and previously, with Bendigo Community Health and Bendigo UFS Pharmacies. 

Michael began as CEO at St John of God Bendigo Hospital in 2005. In 2012, he joined the Pathology Division as General Manager of Victoria at Geelong before being appointed CEO of Pathology in 2013. 

After one year as Deputy CEO of St John of God Midland Public Hospital in 2016, he went onto become the CEO of St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospital, Perth until June 2022. 

Currently as Chief Executive Officer at St John of God Bendigo Hospital, Michael leads an executive team and over 600 staff. He is passionate about lifting medical services to deliver the best possible health care outcomes in regional communities across Victoria. 

Adam Woods - Director of FinanceAdam Woods - Director of Finance

Adam Woods CA is a finance professional, strategic thinker and influencer with a passion for tackling workforce challenges associated with technology and innovation driven change. Adam has more than 22 years in senior management roles leading diverse teams in accounting, information technology, human resources (HR), treasury operations, project management and occupational health and safety.

Adam has always sought a variety of challenges through his career, including as Group Financial Controller for Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, leading the team through the global financial crisis, the concurrent merger and ultimately the implementation of an integrated finance and HR platform. More recently, Adam was with North Central CMA as Executive Manager Corporate Services managing the finance, technology, human resources and risk functions, and ensuring the organisations focus on sustaining and enhancing our natural water catchments for our regional communities.

In addition to his role with St John of God Health Care, Adam is a Director on the Board of Goulburn Murray Credit Union and previously served nine years on the Board of Bendigo Health. Adam is a member of Chartered Accountants ANZ and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Information Management).

Adam was appointed Director of Finance at St John of God Bendigo Hospital in September 2024. Adam is passionate about person centred leadership and supporting the diversity of work required to ensure sustainable and quality services are maintained for our regional communities.

Liz McEncroe - Director of Nursing and Midwifery St John of God Bendigo Hospital Director of Nursing Andriy Kurtsev

Liz McEncroe has been recently appointed as Director of Nursing and Midwifery.

Liz joined us from our Ballarat division where she has served in many different roles since 2010, and currently holds the Deputy Director of Nursing position there.

With more than 30 years of nursing experience, Liz has worked predominantly in oncology and retains a great passion for the delivery of patient-centered, compassionate care. 

In addition to her Bachelor of Nursing, Liz holds post graduate qualifications in oncology and a Diploma in Leadership.

Anna Hill - Director Marketing and Business DevelopmentSt John of God Bendigo Hospital Senior Business Director Anna Hill

Anna Hill is a Harvard Business School graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and 20 years of marketing and management experience. She has delivered major events and projects in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the US, and the UK.

As Education Events Manager at Epworth Healthcare, Anna produced a record number of education events for Epworth's 3,000 doctors and received the Epworthy Award for her outstanding contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before joining Epworth, Anna founded a global events and communications company with world-class clients such as DIOR, OMEGA, J.P. Morgan, Chandon Australia, Cloudy Bay NZ and R.M.Williams.  

Anna's connection to St John of God Bendigo Hospital is generational and profound. Her grandfather, Frank K. Hill, a respected Bendigo businessman and former Chair of the hospital's Board, secured the initial capital investment for Mount Alvernia Hospital. Her grandmother was the first President of the Ladies Auxiliary, her mother a Special Minister volunteer for 15 years and, Anna and her two brothers were born at St John of God Bendigo Hospital.

John Brohm was appointed Director of Mission Integration in August 2021.

John has over 30 years of experience in Catholic education and has held senior positions as Principal, Deputy Principal and Executive Officer.

He also holds a broad range of qualifications in education, religion and leadership and has worked in both public service, private enterprise and owned his own small business.

John prioritises relationship development in the workplace and provides operational, strategic, learning and formation advisory and is enjoying the diversity of the health care sector.

Associate Professor Peter Roessler - Director of Medical Services St John of God Bendigo Hospital Director of Medical Services Associate Professor Peter Roessler

Associate Professor Peter Roessler MBBS (Hons) FRANZCOG was appointed Director of Medical Services at St John of God Hospital in 2017.

Peter attended the University of Queensland and joined the Royal Australian Army as an Undergraduate Medical Officer. After completing his internship and a subsequent year of residency in Toowoomba, he became a full time Medical Officer for the Royal Australian Army.

Peter was posted to the 1st Armoured Regiment at Puckapunyal and then to ASC UNTAC for service in Cambodia for the disarming of the warring factions and subsequent elections.

Following his return from Cambodia he was promoted and realised that he was becoming an administrator. He was then accepted into the RANZCOG training programmed at Monash Medical Centre and spent time in Chelmsford, England and Wangaratta during his training.

Today, he is active in the administration and lecturing of medical students through Monash University. 

Julie Stephens - Manager, Quality and Risk St John of God Bendigo Hospital Manager, Quality and Risk Julie Stephens

Julie is a Registered Nurse with broad experience in a range of nursing disciplines. She re-joined St John of God Bendigo Hospital in 2014 and is committed to improving patient experience through the delivery of safe and effective healthcare practices. 

Previously, Julie worked as Senior Nurse Advisor for the Private Health Services Regulation Unit at the Victorian Department of Health. In this leadership position, she was involved in supporting hospitals to meet their obligatory responsibilities and played an active role in implementing the communication strategy to improve the relationship between industry and the Department.
 
Julie’s passion is ensuring processes, education and systems are evidence-based and ultimately support caregivers at the bedside. Working collaboratively with all our teams, Julie acknowledges the great work that is being done and identifies key opportunities for improvement in our hospital.
