Professor Vlasios (Bill) Brakoulias is regarded as an international expert in the assessment and treatment of OCD, anxiety and related disorders having completed a PhD studying symptom sub-types of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and focusing much of his research on clinical aspects of such disorders. He has published numerous scientific articles and presented his findings at international conferences.
Prof Brakoulias is committed to improving standards of practice. He is the Editor in Chief of the Psychiatric Journal Australasian Psychiatry and teaches medical students with Western Sydney University and The University of Sydney, and also psychiatry trainees with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. His substantial role is the Executive Director of Mental Health for the Western Sydney Local Health District.
Prof Brakoulias has completed advanced training in the psychotherapies and has additional skills and experience in cognitive-behavioural therapy, conversational model psychodynamic therapy, group and family therapy. He treats patients with exposure and response prevention for OCD and is trained in cognitive-behavioural therapy for delusions and overvalued ideas.
