What is your role?
I am a registered nurse in the endoscopy theatre at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.
Why did you chose to work with us?
I joined the hospital in December last year having migrated from Kuwait, where I worked as a registered nurse in endoscopy for 14 years. I did my nursing training in my home state of Kerala in India and worked there for four years before going to Kuwait.
What are the benefits to you for coming to work with us?
Working for St John of God Health Care has provided me with the opportunity to come to Western Australia to work in my profession as a permanent resident and raise my two children along with my husband. My children will now have the opportunity to study at university when they are older, a prospect they would not have been able to pursue in Kuwait.
How has your experience been?
The experience of working for St John of God Health Care has been very positive. I received a very good orientation when I started and the team and my nurse manager have been very supportive. I’ve been made to feel like a family member and have made some good new friends. The hospital is busy but everyone you see has a smile on their face and are happy in their work.
How was the experience of moving internationally to join us?
Moving to Australia from Kuwait was hard at first as I had to leave my husband and children for a few months. In those early months I was a lonely and missed my family but my colleagues supported me and checked that I was okay so they helped me settle in. I was so happy when my family arrived. My husband secured a good job and my children are enjoying and doing very well at school.
Why would you recommend our hospitals as great places to work?
I would definitely recommend working at St John of God Health Care hospitals to other caregivers. Being able to work at the hospital has given me and my family a future.
